Well it is a week into December and I'm just now getting around to the recap so that should indicate that I was not completely successful. Let's break it down:
1. Go to Diana's birthday dinner.
I totally went to the dinner. Unfortunately I couldn't afford a gift.
2. Go to Hot Dogs and Broads with Dusty.
Dusty didn't go so I was off the hook for that one. She did come out on Diana's birthday though.
3. Buy Diana's Christmas gift.
Done. I also bought myself a couple of gifts. And if you're looking to buy a funny t-shirt for someone in your life I cannot recommend Natalie Dee enough. I received my order before the charge even cleared my bank account. That is some impressive shipping.
4. Get Boris some Frontline.
Not done. We've been sticking to the neighborhood and regular park walks though, so we're still getting our exercise without picking up pests.
5. Garage sale with Danica
.
Well I don't think she had it. It got cold, we're busy, I'm tired. Blah, blah, blah. Point is: FAIL.
6. I'm gonna cook the shit out of a pumpkin and make a pumpkin roll!
I did roast the pumpkin and make puree. I did buy the ingredients for the roll. Maybe I'll even get the roll made before it's too hot to bake again. I don't know...that only gives me 4-6 months. That will be tough.
Whooopsie, seems I forgot to make any resolutions in my last entry. FAIL! So not many plans for this month. Let's get down to business so I can get back to not typing.
1. Go to Diana's birthday dinner.
Should be easy enough. A gift will be the hardest part.
2. Go to Hot Dogs and Broads with Dusty.
This will be difficult. I love the bar. Just not this one.
3. Buy Diana's Christmas gift.
I'm buying from Nataliedee so I want to get this taken care of before December.
4. Get Boris some Frontline.
We have been hiking lately and I found a tick on him this week. Not acceptable!
5. Garage sale with Danica.
I've got to get the things I want to sell together and take it all to her house.
So not too much this month. And it only took half the month to get this post done!
*Edited to add:
6. I'm gonna cook the shit out of a pumpkin and make a pumpkin roll!
Hi Internet! Well it's November 4th and you know what that means...I voted today! It was pretty crazy to get there. I had to drive down a dirt road like 5 mph at some points and thought for sure the internet was sending me into some kind of Deliverance situation. My mom and I had to pull over into someone's driveway and call the church we were looking for. We did find it though. I figured all the people there would be voting Republican especially since I saw a billboard on the way out that said "Keep Texas RED, vote Republican!" but was pleased to see at least one car in the parking lot supporting the right guy Obama/Biden. I had to vote provisional since I'm a failure at keeping myself registered but I am pretty sure my vote will be counted. I hope at least, but doubt it would be counted by today. Anyway I will be super happy when all this is over and hope it isn't too close of a race.
Now let's talk about those resolutions I mentioned last month. I'm going to have to admit defeat in this. *frowny face* But! I won't let that keep me down. I'll just make some new resolutions after I explain my failures from last month:
1. Go to the Texas State Fair
Well I did do this! Claire, Kelli, Andrew and I all went together. Claire and Andrew are newly in love so Kelli and I spent much of our time without them. Claire went with us last year so it was nice to keep up that tradition. I had many many fried foods: chicken fried bacon, fried chocolate chip cookie dough, deep fried beefy queso balls, fried Totino's pizza bites, a deep fried turkey leg and probably more that I might be able to remember if I hadn't gotten quite so drunk. Security was pretty lax so Kelli and I were able to sneak in a bottle of whiskey. It was a good time and I'm looking forward to next year, although my GI tract probably isn't.
2. Go to Fright Fest FAIL! This really came down to money and time deficiencies. I just couldn't afford the tickets, had no time to go and I wasn't the only one. I think I could have a good time if I went alone but think I'd have a better time with a friend. Unfortunately I'm not the only busy person who is also broke! I'll try to make it to Holiday in the Park, but that will end up on December's list. 3. Prepare my Halloween costume FAIL! I should get started on it now for next year! Instead I was this again. No one in Ft. Worth had seen me in it since I'd only worn it in New Orleans last year so it wasn't too lame. And it truly is an awesome costume so it was received well. And I'm always looking for ways to reuse that $200 dress! 4. Decorate my porch for Halloween (I'm passing out candy this year since I won't be in New Orleans (BOO)) Success! I bought a couple of tiny pumpkins, a baking pumpkin, a string of orange lights and a string of skeletons to add to my small collection of decorations. It was enough to signal to the kids that I had the goods though. I went through quite a bit of candy but I feel like I didn't have as many kids as the year before last. I think there were fewer houses passing out candy in my neighborhood. My duplex neighbor certainly wasn't joining in (which is totally fine...I guess...if they hate fun!). I had a lot of repeat offenders, teens too old, kids with no costumes and adults but was cordial to all and didn't get any tricks. I'm very glad to have that damned candy bowl empty that is for sure! 5. Camp at least once more this year Well that is another big FAIL. Just like Six Flags I just haven't had the time or money. The weather here in North Texas is still very nice so it's a possibility this could happen in November. My coworker has also switched shifts with me for the next two weeks so that means I'll have Fri-Sun off which would be good for camping. I'll add it to November's list but certainly won't beat myself up if I don't succeed! 6. Go to a corn maze That's also going to be another big FAIL. I only know of one and it's not too far away but I just didn't get to it this year. I'm sure I can try again next year. As far as the general stuff I mentioned (eating healthy, working out, walking the dog, etc.) I'd say I succeeded as much as I failed. I definitely didn't eat healthy a the State Fair but that was to be expected. I am still cooking most of my own food so that helps keep me somewhat healthy. Enchiladas are definitely not health food but at least I know exactly what's going in them in my kitchen. I've been taking Boris to different parks around Ft. Worth which he really seems to enjoy. It's really helping his temperment (well duh, right?). I've not been working out as often as I should but I am making it in at least one day a week so my money isn't being completely wasted. I've gone twice this week so I have to congratulate myself on that. All I can ask of myself is to try and I'm doing that so no matter how many times this post has the word FAIL in it I still think I'm doing ok.
I like to read Elastic Waist. I really like Kim. She posts resolutions every month and it's kind of inspiring. The thing is, I've been trying to do some things differently that can be considered resolutions but I want to continue doing them every month. Like cooking all my own meals. Working out 3 times a week. Walking my dog at least 3 times a week. Doing something active at least 30 minutes every day. Eating more fruits and veggies. You get the idea.
October is a very busy month for me - probably everyone. So instead of resolutions, I'm listing the things I really want to do this month:
1. Go to the Texas State Fair
2. Go to Fright Fest
3. Prepare my Halloween costume
4. Decorate my porch for Halloween (I'm passing out candy this year since I won't be in New Orleans (BOO))
5. Camp at least once more this year
6. Go to a corn maze
That's not too much to cram into one month (that's already a week old) but it might cost a lot. We'll see what I can make happen and if I don't get to do it all that's ok. All that shit can be done in 2009 too.
